Cape Verde: passport and entry requirements
Cape Verde is visa-free for UK families, but everyone has to register online and pay an airport tax before flying, and each passport needs six months' validity left.
Your passport
Each passport needs to be valid for at least six months after the day you arrive.
Check the whole family's passports when you book. Children's come up for renewal more often than an adult's, so they're the ones most likely to be close to expiry, and renewing one early is easier than being caught out at the airport.
Getting in
There's no visa for a stay of up to 30 days, and each traveller is covered on their own passport, children included. What Cape Verde's entry rules ask for instead is an online registration and an airport tax, both sorted before you travel rather than paid at the border.
Every traveller needs their own passport, the youngest included, valid as long as the adults'. A child aged 17 or under travelling without a parent or guardian needs a certified letter of authorisation written in Portuguese, so sort that out if a child is coming with grandparents or another family rather than with mum or dad. Children aged one and under are exempt from both the online registration and the airport tax.
Registering online and the airport tax
Before you fly, every traveller fills in the EASE form, Cape Verde's online entry registration on the official government website, and pays the airport security tax, known as the TSA, at the same time. The tax is 3,400 Cape Verdean escudos a person, around £26 (last checked August 2026). Both are done online, one per person, with children included, though those aged one and under are exempt from both.
Do it at least five days before you travel. From 1 July 2026, arriving without having registered means paying the TSA at double the rate at the border. Use the official EASE site rather than a third-party one, and keep your confirmation to hand for check-in.
