Disney has given Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress a late spring 2027 reopening window and revealed the four eras in its new version. Disney says the Yeti inside Expedition Everest is coming back to life, while Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has an optional link to Fortnite.
Carousel of Progress will reopen in late spring 2027
Carousel of Progress is currently closed at Magic Kingdom while Disney replaces the familiar show, which last received a major update in 1994. The new version is due to open in late spring 2027.
A new introductory scene will include an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney. It is based on the 1964 television programme in which Walt explained the Carousel of Progress before its debut at the New York World’s Fair.
The rotating theatre will then follow the same family through four different periods. The first act is set during the 1969 moon landing. The second moves to Halloween 1985, with Sarah showing the family’s new appliances while John hands sweets to trick-or-treaters.
The family will spend the third act waiting for the year 2000 on New Year’s Eve 1999. The final scene looks further ahead, with a household robot and space travel forming part of Disney’s imagined future.
Jamie Lee Curtis will voice Sarah and Bryan Cranston will voice John. The Sherman Brothers’ song There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow will remain between scenes.
Late spring is still a broad window rather than an exact date. Anyone visiting Magic Kingdom before then should expect the attraction to remain unavailable. If your trip is close to the reopening window, check Disney’s attraction page before you go.
Disney says Expedition Everest’s Yeti is coming back to life
Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum told the D23 audience that Disney is bringing the Yeti inside Expedition Everest back to life. Disney has not explained whether that means the full figure will move again or what guests will see.
Disney has not said what work will be carried out, when guests will see the change or whether Expedition Everest will need to close. The coaster continues to operate, so there is no current change for a planned Animal Kingdom day.
Smugglers Run now connects with Fortnite
The new Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite feature went live on 16 August 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland in California. It connects the theme-park attraction with Smugglers Gambit, a Star Wars island inside Fortnite.
Guests can accept a special mission through the Walt Disney World or Disneyland app, or begin inside Fortnite. Eligible guests need to accept the mission and link their MyDisney and Epic Games accounts to claim their post-ride rewards in Fortnite. Guests who are not eligible to link the accounts can redeem a code instead.
During the park mission, crews collect crates for Hondo Ohnaka. Those crates can unlock rewards in Fortnite, while the ride score becomes credits that can be used in Smugglers Gambit. Eligible players can also receive a Forsworn Trooper outfit.
The connected mission is optional and included with valid admission. Families who do not use Fortnite can still ride Smugglers Run as usual.
