Disney has revealed the four attractions planned for Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom. The two large expansions will bring a pair of Cars rides, a Maleficent coaster and a Disney Villains dark ride to the park.
There is still no opening date for either land. Disney has also said nothing about height requirements, so families cannot yet tell which of the four rides will work for younger children.
Piston Peak will have a rally ride and a Miss Fritter attraction
Cars Ridge Run Rally is Piston Peak’s off-road racing attraction. It will send guests over ridges, through mud flats and down from a snowy mountain summit before racing around a geyser field. Lightning McQueen and Mater will cover the finish for the fictional Racing Sports Network.
Disney says the attraction will use a new vehicle with working tyres and suspension.
The second attraction is Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along, based on the school-bus demolition derby character from Cars 3. A huge, school-bus-sized Miss Fritter animatronic will host the ride.
Piston Peak is replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area. Its national-park setting will include a visitor lodge, a ranger headquarters, trails, waterfalls, rivers and woodland. Disney says trees will help screen the racing attraction from Liberty Square and other parts of Frontierland. Geysers from the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad landscape will continue into the new land.
Villains Land will be similar in scale to Galaxy’s Edge
Disney has settled on the straightforward name Villains Land. The new area beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be comparable in size to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, with two major attractions as well as places to eat and shop.
Its original story begins with a wishing well corrupted by an evil wish. The broken well spreads poisoned magic through a forest, attracting Disney Villains who use it to create their own palaces and fortresses. Disney has confirmed that Cruella de Vil, the Evil Queen and Dr Facilier will have lairs in the land, although it has not revealed the full line-up.
The first ride is a coaster built around Maleficent. Riders will travel through enchanted briars around her mountaintop fortress and meet the villain herself. Disney says the coaster will include elements its Imagineers have not attempted on similar attractions, although it has not explained what those elements are.
The second attraction is a dark ride hosted by the Magic Mirror from Snow White. Guests will enter the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen’s palace before the mirror transports them into a separate realm filled with different Disney Villains. Disney says the ride will combine physical sets with special effects.
Parents of children who are easily frightened will need more than the current concept art before judging it.
