Disney Vacation Club has changed when members can move their booking dates

Dates and room types on a Disney Vacation Club booking can now only be changed once the original check-out date is within 11 months, which ends the practice members call walking and makes longer stays harder to piece together.

Disney Vacation Club, Disney’s points-based holiday ownership scheme, has changed its rules for confirmed bookings. Members can now change the travel dates or room type only when the original check-out date is within 11 months of the change. Guest details can still be updated and bookings can still be cancelled.

The new wording appeared on the member website in early September 2026 and is in the updated Home Resort Rules and Regulations dated 2 September 2026. The member website has blocked these changes since 17 September.

The end of walking

Members can book their home resort, the resort where they own points, 11 months ahead, four months before members from other resorts can book it at seven months. A booking can be up to seven nights. Under the old rules, a member could book seven nights from the first date that had just opened, then move the booking forward a day at a time as each later date opened. That kept first choice of the following dates for themselves. Members called this walking.

The new rule stops it. A seven-night booking made at the 11-month point has a check-out date outside 11 months, so its dates can’t be changed until that check-out comes inside the window.

Longer stays

Until now, a member planning a longer stay could book the first seven nights at 11 months and extend the stay as the later nights opened. Adding nights now has to wait until the original check-out is within 11 months, by which time other home-resort owners can book the same dates. The seven-night limit on a first booking hasn’t changed.

This story was updated in October 2026, after the new rule took effect on the member website.
